Our Mission

Our mission is “to increase in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”

  • We increase in wisdom by expecting teachers and students to do their best in learning––and we measure success one student at a time.
  • We increase in stature by making healthy choices that honor our bodies as God’s temple.
  • We increase in favor with God by becoming His friend and treating each other as He would.
  • We increase in favor with our fellow man by serving our community and making a difference as Jesus did.

Our mission guides us as we seek to continually serve the children and families in our community. It is based on Jesus’ example in Luke 2:52.

Why do we exist?

Since 1902 Foothills has been educating children of the Napa Valley––roughly 25% of our families are multi-generational families whose parents and/or grandparents attended Foothills.  While our name and locations may have changed, our purpose has remained consistent; to educate the whole child.

At Foothills our children get a strong academic education and are well-prepared for the next grade level. The children meet Jesus each day and have the opportunity to grow a personal relationship with Him. Our students also learn habits that will help them lead a happy, healthy life.

Healthy minds, healthy bodies, healthy relationships –– Living for Jesus!
Do you dream for your child to have not only an academically excellent education, but also a happy, healthy life?

Adventist education believes the aim of true education is to restore human beings into the image of God as revealed by the life of Jesus Christ. Only through the guidance of the Holy Spirit can this be accomplished. An education of this kind imparts far more than academic knowledge. It fosters a balanced development of the whole person—spiritual, physical, intellectual, and social-emotional—a process that spans a lifetime.

When we speak about educating the whole child we are talking about changing the conversation about education from a focus on narrowly defined academic achievement to one that promotes the long term development and success of children. Here are five tenets from the whole child perspective on education:

  • Each student enters school healthy and learns about and practices a healthy lifestyle.
  • Each student learns in an environment that is physically and emotionally safe.
  • Each student is actively engaged in learning and is connected to the school and broader community.
  • Each student has access to personalized learning and is supported by qualified, caring adults.
  • Each student is challenged academically and prepared for success at the next level of study, and to participate in their communities.

At Foothills we believe in educating the whole child and changing the conversation about education from a focus on narrowly defined academic achievement to one that promotes the long term development and success of happy, healthy children who are excited about learning and living for Jesus each day. A Growth Mindset

In the first few weeks of school, each teacher shares with students the secrets to learning: how their brains work and how the learning process happens. At Foothills we believe that having a growth mindset is very important to fulfilling our mission. Foothills believes that a growth mindset maximizes the potential growth of the whole child.
